Yeadon is twin homes, driveways and trees. It sits just over the Philadelphia line with Cobbs Creek Park along its city-side edge, and cars here sleep off the street under a heavy canopy rather than nose to tail at a kerb. That is worth saying plainly, because it changes the work: we see far fewer smashed door windows from Yeadon than from a South Philadelphia block, and far more glass broken or scratched by what comes out of a tree.
The rest of Yeadon's damage is collected somewhere else entirely. People here commute, into Center City, into University City, down the expressways, and that is where a stone finds a windshield. The mark comes home, sits in the driveway through a run of freezing nights, and shows up as a crack in the second week of January. Dealt with while it is still a chip it is half an hour and $60 to $130, often covered outright by comprehensive insurance. After that it is a replacement at $250 to $450 fitted. Back glass is tempered, so it will have gone completely rather than cracked, and the pieces will be through the boot, the parcel shelf and the rear seat rails. Cover the opening from the inside if the car is staying outside.
