Girard Estate is the exception to how South Philadelphia parks. The houses sit back from the street with ground around them, a good number have a driveway or a garage, and the streets are wider than the rowhouse grid two blocks north. Cars sleep off the road more often than not, and under trees rather than under a street light. That one difference changes what we see from here: far fewer smashed door windows than from the blocks around Point Breeze, and far more damage that arrived slowly.
The other thing about the Estate is that people drive out of it. Households here commute, over the Platt Bridge, down I-95, out the Schuylkill, and highway miles are where windshields get hit. A stone at speed leaves a star you never hear over the radio, and it sits there until a cold morning turns it into a line across the glass. Bring it in while it is still smaller than a quarter and out of your sightline and it is a 30-minute resin fill for $60 to $130, often nothing at all with comprehensive cover. Leave it and it is $250 to $450 for new glass, an hour of work and a wait for the adhesive. Being two minutes away only helps if you use it early.
The Estate sits roughly between 20th and 27th Streets, running from Snyder Avenue down toward Porter and Shunk, with Broad Street and Oregon Avenue framing it east and south. The streets are unusually generous for this part of the city: front setbacks, mature street trees that meet overhead in summer, and driveways where the rest of South Philadelphia has a kerb and a prayer. Snyder Avenue along the top is the working road, with buses, trucks and everything crossing from Broad out to 25th, and we are on it at 26th. Oregon Avenue to the south picks up the traffic heading for the stadiums and I-95. Inside the block pattern itself it is quiet, which is exactly why the trees do more damage to glass here than people do.

From most of Girard Estate it is 25th or 26th Street north to Snyder Avenue and a turn; we are on the north side between 26th and 27th. From the Porter and Shunk end, come up 22nd or 24th and turn west onto Snyder. From Broad Street, Snyder takes you straight west across 20th and 25th. It is short enough that leaving the car and walking home is how most people here do it, and short enough that if you would rather not move a car with a cracked windshield at all, the van can come to the driveway. The Estate is one of the few parts of South Philadelphia with genuine room to work alongside a vehicle.
